FRIENDS
OF MEDIEVAL DUBLIN
WALKS FOR HERITAGE WEEK
As part of the successful
annual Heritage
Week run by the Heritage
Council, the Friends of Medieval Dublin
will hold three guided walks exploring the
unique archaeology and turbulent history
of Viking and later medieval Dublin. These
three walks are based around maps
devised through the collaboration of the
Friends of Medieval Dublin and Dublin
City Council, who publish the maps.
There are three walks which
cover different aspects of medieval Dublin:
the St Audoen's walk, the Dublinia walk
and the City Hall walk. Leaving at 5.30pm,
the first walk on Monday 27 August will
leave from City Hall in Dame Street Dublin
2. The second on Wednesday 29 August will
leave from the Dublinia Heritage Centre
at Christ Church, St Michael's Hill, Dublin
8 and finally the last walk will start from
St Audoen's church in High Street, Dublin
8 on Friday 31 August 2007.
Admission is free. Attendance
would not be suitable for young children,
and wheel chair access, covering the paths
of Dublin, is only partial. No car parking
is available. Please let us know in advance
which walk you are interested in. This will
help us to organize more than one guide
per walk if needed. Thank you for your cooperation.
For those interested in
participating, please contact the chairman
of the Friends of Medieval Dublin, Dr Seán
Duffy, Department of History, School of
Histories and Humanities, Trinity College
Dublin, Dublin 2. Email: sduffy@tcd.ie or
