St Audoen's arch, c.1885 by A. WilliamsLAUNCH OF CITY WALL CONSERVATION PLAN

On Wednesday 8 December 2004 at 6.00pm, the lord mayor of Dublin, Councillor Michael Conaghan will launch the Dublin city walls and defences conservation plan, in the atrium of the civic offices in Wood Quay.

This is the culmination of a partnership begun in July 2003 between Dublin City Council and The Heritage Council as an action of the Dublin City Heritage Plan.

The plan has been prepared by lead consultants Margaret Gowen & Co. Ltd, Archaeological Consultants, with the Integrated Conservation Group (Carrig Conservation International, Consarc and Lisa Edden, Structural Engineer) and RPS McHugh and was commissioned to address a range of concerns in respect of the preservation, conservation, management and presentation of both above ground and below ground remains of one of the city’s most important, but poorly preserved and presented, historic civic monuments.

The final draft of the plan is available online at Margaret Gowan & Co. Ltd. (PDF 5.9MB). See also on the Dublin City Council website. Parking will be available in the Civic Offices Car Park (entrance on Winetavern Street). Regrets only: 01-2223824 or email heritage@dublincity.ie.
